Earlier in the quarter, SCIDaR marked a significant milestone in its mission to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system with the official launch of the Wema-SCIDaR Health Financing Facility for Community Pharmacists and Patent Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs).
PPMVs, provide essential healthcare services to over half of Nigeria’s population. These front-line providers are the cornerstone of many communities’ healthcare delivery systems. However, they often face significant financial barriers to scaling up their operations and improving service delivery. This new financing facility aims to break down those barriers.
The launch was attended by Mark Allen, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Global Programs at Merck for Mothers; Iyadunni Olubode, Country Director of MSD for Mothers; and representatives from Wema Bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), and Society for Family Health (SFH).
With the launch of the Wema-SCIDaR Health Financing Facility, SCIDaR and its partners have taken a bold step toward transforming healthcare at the grassroots level, especially with the realities of the task shifting, task sharing policies.. By empowering PPMVs with the financial tools they need to succeed, this initiative is not only strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system but also providing a model for future collaborations between the healthcare and financial sectors.
