Introduction

Our work seeks to benefit primarily disadvantaged and under-served populations. We implement transformation programs in Nigeria and are currently expanding our footprint to several West and Central African countries. SCIDaR is currently implementing a 12-month PHC Management Capacity Strengthening project (KPMCSP) across LGAs in Kano state (which officially commenced in February, 2023). The goal of the KPMCSP is to support the Kano state government to optimize systems for PHC service delivery and strengthen the management capacity of PHC Managers/Officers in charge through capacity building interventions.

Description and Objectives 

The Curriculum Development Specialist will lead the design and develop a custom training curriculum focused on PHC Management, including learning and assessment strategies, building on globally accepted standard

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct research and training needs assessment to ensure the training content for PHC managers reflects their training needs, current best practice and project requirement 
  2. Conduct preliminary review of existing and relevant learning materials related to PHC management  
  3. Facilitate and effectively supervise the custom curriculum development and review committee 
  4. Make recommendations for the most effective approach to deliver the in-class trainings 
  5. Work collaboratively with a team of professionals to develop an in-class training package comprising of the session plans, development of learning and assessment materials 
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the project Manager

Competencies required

  1. Knowledge of adult learning principles 
  2. Ability to manage persons, resources and processes to implement and monitor strategies with substantial outcome
  3. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) 
  4. Exceptional research, project management, organization and interpersonal skills 
  5. Ability to meet deadlines and with limited supervision
  6. Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  7. Strong problem-solving skills 
  8. Capacity to work independently and function effectively within a team

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences or related field, a Master’s degree is a plus
  2. At least 10 years’ experience working in education or professional training projects
  3. Prior experience in curriculum/training development, consulting, and healthcare
  4. Strong stakeholder management skills
  5. Knowledge of working in the state and its terrain
