Six state governments in northern Nigeria (Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, and Yobe States) individually executed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with development partners (the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, and the United States Agency for International Development) to establish an innovative funding platform to transform routine immunization (RI) programming and sustainably improve immunization coverage in Nigeria’s worst-performing states. The experiences and lessons learned from the implementation across the six states have been documented and packaged in the form of a start-up guide, compendium, and state-specific case-studies listed below. These knowledge products are aimed at providing a detailed step-by-step approach to conceptualizing and setting up an effective, efficient, and transparent future partnership to drive health systems strengthening for RI across all Nigerian states as well as in other similar contexts. Although the lessons learned in these knowledge products come from routine immunization, the approach to the MOU partnership is applicable to other areas of intervention as well as broader primary health care.
