The FOR Mom program continues to transform maternal healthcare across Nigeria, delivering tangible improvements in patient outcomes. In Lagos State, program-supported health facilities have reported faster service delivery, reduced client waiting times, and enhanced patient care, thanks to the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR) systems and vital facility upgrades such as new delivery beds. These changes, enabled by the program’s innovative interventions, are helping health facilities operate more efficiently while ensuring higher standards of care.

In July 2024, a strategic visit by Mark Allen, MSD’s Director of Strategic Partnerships and Global Programs, and Iyadunni Olubode, Director of MSD Nigeria Programs, accelerated this progress. A revised implementation strategy, approved during the visit, is set to expand the program’s reach. This will enable more health facilities to adopt cutting-edge technology and participate in capacity-building initiatives that empower healthcare workers with up-to-date knowledge on maternal care.

On July 25, a focus group discussion with medical directors from FOR Mom-supported facilities highlighted the program’s achievements. Directors shared how access to credit has allowed for essential infrastructure upgrades and how staff have benefited from capacity-building sessions based on SafeCare standards. These efforts are already driving significant improvements in healthcare delivery, reducing errors, and enhancing patient safety.

The visit concluded with a community of practice meeting on July 26, bringing together leaders from FOR Mom, Project Aisha, and Well-body. The focus was on sustaining and scaling these successful interventions by forging strong partnerships and advocating for key government policies. The group underscored the critical role of collaboration and policy reform in ensuring that the positive changes initiated by the program continue to thrive.

The July visit marks a pivotal moment for the FOR Mom program as it gears up to further expand its impact, ensuring sustainable improvements in maternal care across Nigeria.
