Solina currently provides technical assistance (TA) to the NPHCDA to design, implement, and institutionalize a structured approach for effective identification and delivery of technical support to the State Primary Health Care Development Agencies (SPHCDAs) for improved PHC system and service delivery.

As part of the support, Solina also instituted a Leadership Development Academy (LDA) as a long-term measure to ensure an in-house system to continually build the leadership and management skills of NPHCDA staff to lead and coordinate TA for effective PHC service delivery effectively.

Solina also supported the establishment of a Technical Support Unit (TSU) – a lean team that manages the program. We onboarded the team on their roles and expectations. We set up clear accountability measures, including visibility into the team’s performance created for the Executive Director of the Agency for checks and balances. Through our embed model, we provide daily hands-on support and, job coaching to aid the unit members effectively and independently carry out their job roles.

The fellow graduated from the LDA in collaboration with the TSU have identified up to 120 technical support required by the 36+1 SPHCBs; and fulfilled 75 PHC focused TA requests with support over 20 partner organizations, across Nigeria states. Examples of the TA needs to be fulfilled across the states are MSP costing, PHC Annual Operational Plan development, Operational guideline development, CCE maintenance training, DHIS 2 training, among others. As a result of Solina’s support, 29 NPHCDA staff have graduated from the Leadership Development Academy as fellows, who are leading and coordinating TA delivery to the SPHCDA/MBs. We have also identified and trained 14 other staff on delivering specific TA needs to the states.
