Over 2.1 million Nigerian children remain unvaccinated, accounting for 16% of the global burden of zero-dose children. These children are vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and polio.
Despite progress made over the years by various programs including BMGF-funded NNRISP; social, practical, and systemic barriers continue to hinder Nigeria’s immunization efforts. To address this, the Full Portfolio Planning (FPP) initiative—supported by Gavi funding and in collaboration with the NPHCDA—focuses on strengthening health systems, expanding vaccine coverage, and reaching underserved communities.
Following a thorough review, Nigeria secured a $190M grant to fund immunization programs from 2025 to 2028.
This milestone is a lifeline for millions of Nigerian children and brings us closer to a future where every child has access to life-saving vaccines.
With FPP driving reforms and innovation, we’re taking critical steps to close the immunization gap and ensure no child is left behind.
